Well, I hope you all took advantage of the extra long weekend. This would have been a perfect opportunity to catch up on any work you missed, or do a more thorough job in reading, annotating, and answering the reading questions for Chapter 6 of TKAM.
But most of all, I hope all of you remained safe during this destructive hurricane.
Stay safe and get a good night's sleep tonight. Tomorrow, back to school! And Halloween, of course!
p.s. If you are dressing up tomorrow, remember the guidelines on that yellow handout you should have gotten in Advisory, and in Mr. Hannah's video. Can't wait to see all of you tomorrow!

Boo!
I was glad to see that all my and Mr. Hannah's hounding paid off. I would say about 85-90% of you turned in a printed final draft of your Miss Caroline project. (For those of you who didn't, please hand in your project on Monday. It'll be late, but anything is better than a zero. We shouldn't have to tell you that twice.)
After grading the possessives quiz, it's clear we still need to do some work fixing sentences. That seems to be the area where people are having the most trouble. We'll keep working on this.
In getting back to TKAM Chapter 6, suspense is the word! What will happen after Jem, Dill, and our beloved narrator, Scout, come face to face with the shadow of Boo Radley? Keep reading to find out!
Have a great weekend and stay clear of the hurricane!

Sweeeeet Caroline (buh! buh! buh!)
Be grateful today was a half day. Had it been a regular day with our usual block schedule, we would have used the time to continue our reading of TKAM. For those of you who fully took advantage of the time to work on your Miss Caroline project (i.e. asking me or Mr. Hannah to look over it, peer editing, proofreading), I hope you can do a better job of finalizing your short stories tonight.
Remember, though there are 12 "ingredients" that you MUST have in your short story, Mr. Hannah and I will be grading you on creativity, and of course, your grammar and punctuation.
Happy writing!
And don't forget about your possessives quiz tomorrow!
*NOTE: If you plan on printing from the Learning Commons tomorrow, you must do so BEFORE your advisory. I would advise arriving to school around 7:30 AM, which would allow plenty of time to print and give you some room in case any unexpected problems arise.

Ewell? E-well? You-ll? (We'll figure it out.)
Today's class went rather well, no? We'll do more Do Now's where we have you guys come up to the board to fix sentences. That seems to be the best way you guys are learning this grammar stuff. Don't freak out if you're not getting it instantly like some other smarty pants. If you haven't learned this stuff before, that's okay; however, you need to put the effort in now to do so. Otherwise, you're going to keep falling behind.
As for TKAM's Chapter 3, I feel as if most of you got a good grasp on what this chapter was about. Remember, Burris Ewell is the student with lice (a picture of what he may have looked like, seen left), but his family is an important one to remember because they'll show up again later in the novel. The most important note you can remember about the Ewells (we'll get the pronunciation down soon) is that they're an exception to Maycomb's laws. They have special privileges ((1) the kids not attending school, and (2) the father hunting out of season) that the rest of the town turns a blind eye to. Maycomb doesn't arrest the father because then the children would be in far worse shape than they are already. Something to keep in mind as we continue reading.
Continue working on your Miss Caroline projects. Remember, SPECIFICITY!

Pop! Pop!
I was glad to see that a lot of you are now fully enjoying DEAR time. I saw a wide selection of literature and was impressed. Remember, keep up the reading at home.
As for the pop quiz, remember, READ THE DIRECTIONS. Haven't we learned this lesson by now? Had you read the directions, you would have answered 5 out of the 6 you felt most comfortable with, then answered the sixth for extra credit. We went over the answers in class, but if you're still confused by something, please see me or Mr. Hannah for extra help. We don't want you falling behind.
Happy reading!
See you tomorrow.

OMG Shoes!
I hope you all enjoyed today's activity in creating stories about different shoes. You deifnitely created some interesting characters! Remember, use that same enthusiasm and creativity in working on your Miss Caroline Project. It will only help your grade. And remember--proofread, proofread, PROOFREAD!
After going over the Miss Caroline worksheet you did over the weekend, Mr. Hannah and I are feeling a little POPPY (Hint. Hint.). If it were me, I'd go over my Chapter 3 a litte closely in preparation for tomorrow.
See you then.
